Wollongong Stitch N Bitch (SNB) will be on Saturday 31 January in the Lobby Bar at the Novotel Wollongong.

It starts at 2pm (some get there earlier) and finishes around 5pm or so.

Everyone is welcome, so bring along your knitting or crocheting and enjoy a lovely afternoon with people with similar interests.

October SNB, then November SNB & Christmas dinner

The October SNB will be held at the Lobby Bar at the Novotel in Wollongong from 2pm - 5pm (or earlier if you like) on Saturday 25 October.

After the November SNB on 29 November we will be moving onto Collegians to have dinner for Christmas.

A secret Santa will be held at SNB on November 29 during the afternoon. You need to bring a gift to receive a gift. Value to $10. Or better still make something after all we do all knit/crochet, and that will reduce our stash, which means we can shop for more. Sounds great to me.

Time is getting away so quickly, so have a very Merry Christmas and New Year.

CR & K Daisy Designs 2nd Knitting Retreat

It's on again and coming up soon!

This retreat will be held in the grounds of the Mt Keira Scout Camp on the weekend of 27th, 28th & 29th June 2008 "almost Christmas in July"

Cost: $120 per person (accommodation, meals); $70 if not sleeping over

A $25 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place at this Retreat.

As this is a Scout/Training Camp the sleeping quarters are bunk beds, 10 to a room, showers and toilets under chalet (stairs). (There are toilets and showers in Lodge).

A full requirement list (sheets/sleeping bags, toiletries etc) will be given later.

Annual Exhibiton - ANZAC long weekend

Location: Wollongong Old Court House (opposite Wollongong Harbour).

June Meeting

It was another big meeting after the article in the Mercury during the previous month. Even though a few notable regulars were away, there was still more than 35 women happily knitting away.

A 'Stitch in Time' looks fabulous!

After months and months of hard work by a dedicated team, headed this year by the indomitable Ailsa, our exhibition is open to the public. It's such a great chance for us to show off our knitting to family and friends and interested visitors.

We had just finished 'tweaking' and the light outside was fading fast.

I've just sent the press release off to all the local media to promote our exhibition, coming up in just over four weeks time.

I'm not much of a html wiz, so I can't really post the formatted press release. However, since I want you all to see it I guess I'll just have to stick it up here unformatted. Please forgive me.

A Stitch in Time – an exhibition of contemporary knitting by Wollongong Stitch’n’Bitch

The Old Courthouse – Belmore Basin
14th-15th April 2007

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, the cheekily named Wollongong Stitch’n’Bitch knitting group will once again be holding an exhibition of contemporary knitting at the Old Courthouse at Belmore Basin on the weekend of the 14th-15th April 2007.

Exhibition Title: A Stitch in Time

Every month, a group of at least twenty local women meet in the lobby bar of the Novotel in North Wollongong to knit together. The members are as varied as the skeins of yarn they work with, knitting these days is not just something that your granny used to do! Through a common love of the fibre arts, they gather to work on their latest projects and chat about love, life, and everything else. And it’s not every day you see a large goup of women knitting away with cocktails in hand.

In addition to showcasing the high standard of work from our members, this exhibition hopes to explode some of the myths that knitting is frumpy and that all hand knits are itchy and garish. We’ve put together a sparkling variety of hand-knitted items including:
· A full knitted afternoon tea, complete with knitted tea-cups, chocolate cake, cupcakes and cherry pie – guaranteed calorie free!
· A shabby-chic styled wardrobe of garments; from cardigans to shawls – even a pair of knitted underpants and garter belt!
· A ‘rogue’s gallery’ of knitted art squares, each one made by a member of the group. These will be available for sale as dishcloths during the event.
· A ‘flea-market’ section where all articles will be for sale; scarves, hats, toys and clothing will be available, all hand knitted by local artisans.

Not only will there be lots to look at, friendly local members of Stitch’n’Bitch will be present all weekend, working (as always) on their latest creations and ready to answer any questions there may be about the wonderful world of knitting. Come along and be surprised.

Entry is free. A glorious handmade item will be raffled during the exhibition, the proceeds of which will go to Lifeline Wollongong.

It was another great meeting, I love SnB :)

We decided on a name for the exhibition, "A Stitch in Time". More information will be forthcoming.

And here's Bronte. She's obviously showing a wonderful love of yarn already, but hasn't quite managed the coordination of the needles yet.

LONG overdue

I've been seeing this poor little blog languishing ignored for a few months so I thought I'd step up to the plate and make an update.

The silly season is well and truly behind us and to all the Wollongong snb ladies it's time to wish you all a happy new year! There are some fun things planned for this year, keep checking back here for updates.

Firstly, let's start with a schedule of snb's for this year. I'm not the best at getting this sort of thing straight, but I'll refer to a diary and hope for the best.

WOLLONGONG SNB this year:

Time: 2pm onwards (usually till about 5)

The big news for the year so far I guess is the exhibition. After deciding on a suitable title (there will be a poll at the March meeting), it'll be full steam ahead for April's show.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS .........

This doesn't leave much time for knitting, but we really would appreciate it if each member could knit a 20cm square in cotton in any pattern you choose, for use as a dishcloth or facecloth. These will be framed and hung art-gallery style on one of the walls and will be for sale (unless you're really attached to yours).

We're hoping for a gallery-style look for this wall which will be more successful the more we get. So, get that knit on ladies, and see yourself in lights.

October Meeting

SnB was great fun again on the weekend!! I made a point of taking some photos this month because we haven't had any on the blog for a while. So here we have (clockwise from top left) me with baby Bronte, my coffee and my knitting, Tianne with her white confection, Donni wth THAT HUGE CROCHET HOOK and Charmaine with her wonderful Cascade jumper.

KNITTING NEWS: Kerry has booked the Old Courthouse for another SnB exhibition in April next year. So that means we need to start thinking of themes, get planning and begin knitting. If you have any ideas speak to Donni, Sharon or Kerry.

It is purely a 'come along when you can' gathering of like minded knitters of all skill levels and ages who enjoy sharing, seeing each others work, learning from each other, comfy chairs and the occasional coffee cake or cocktail. Warm Hearts: Busy Hands: Photos

Hi Everyone,
I know Ailsa posted a link to some photos of the Warm Hearts: Busy Hands exhibition but here are some more for you to look at! For me the whole thing was a bit of a drama going into labour the day before I was supposed to set up the whole thing, then actually having the baby when I should have been there setting up.

But aside fom my own personal drama and everyone having to rush around like mad things and stand in for me (special thanks to Donni and Kerry) and set it all up with very little notice. The show was a fabulous success!! I (and others) have had great feedback from everyone who came along to see it and there were also lots of sales.

Most people have said that they did not expect to see such a huge range of different types of knitting. They are right of course, there were traditional garments made from handspun and traditional yarns. Some were for adults, some were for kids and some were for babies. There were garments made from new types of fibres and experimental yarns. There were quite a few intricate lace shawls, a huge array of socks and scarves. There were a few hats, some felting, blankets and bags. Not to mention the yarn and goodies for sale in the knitting bazaar. It was a really wide ranging expose of our collective talents and all exhibitors should be VERY proud!

People have also said to me that they really enjoyed reading people's comments about their knitting. It really made a difference to how they viewed the work. We had two articles in local papers and WIN TV came and filmed during the show. (I didn't see what went to air so if any one did or has a tape I'd love to see it.) I have had loads of phone calls about SnB as a result of the publicity so you never know we will probably get many new knitters turning up this Saturday. So here are some shots of the display, well done everyone!!!

We also had a raffle going with the prize generously donated by Kerry and the proceeds were to go to Lifeline. I'll give you an update on how much we raised soon. So now we just have to begin planning for next year. I've got heaps of ides and I should be able to manage not having baby on the day I was supposed to set up the show.

Warm Hearts: Busy Hands

An exhibition of contemporary knitting by Wollongong's Stitch 'n Bitch Knitting group will be on show THIS WEEKEND!! Saturday and Sunday the 20th and 21st May, from 10am to 4pm at the Old Courthouse (Corner of Cliff Road and Harbour Streets Wollongong) There will be a small opening night function from 7pm to 8.30pm on Friday 19th May.

Most members have entered work in the show but if you have not, come along anyway and see what everyone else has been up to. Many of the exhibition works are for sale and there will be a 'knitting bazaar' where some knitting supplies and winter woolies will be available to buy.

The exhibition was featured on the front page of the Northern Leader on Friday 12th May and is also featured on page 11 of the Advertiser today (Wed. 17th May).

Meeting 29th April

The meeting for the 29th April is coming up quickly!!!EEEKK!!

Don't forget that this Saturday is your deadline for handing in your exhibition pieces!!!

You will need to bring the work that you want to submit and your $25.00 exhibition fee.
You will also be asked to provide details about each work for display labels at the show so please give a thought to:

Name of the Piece: eg Blue Cardigan for Jeff
Date Knitted: eg Feb 2006
Yarn Used: eg Jo Sharp DK 100% Wool
Pattern Used: eg The name of the designer or Pattern book. Or Own Design
Brief Description: eg "I loved knitting pattern and I'm very happy with how the cables turned out." or "I wanted to use this yarn for ages and now that I have I never want to again!"
Please consider if you would like to sell the piece and the price that you wish to put on it.

Notes on the fee: Your exhibition fee will cover the hall hire, costs of printing and incedentals relating to the setting up of the show. Even with exhibitors contributing $25 each, it is still a very tight budget so please organise to have the $25 with you on Saturday. We wll be asking for fes for people who only wish to put things in the Knitting Bazaar as well.

Please don't panic if you have a work to finish off before you can hand it in - as long as you bring it along on Saturday and I can see what it is I will be able to plan for its display. So come and talk to me about it.

I will have exhibition invitations ready on Saturday for you to distribute to your neighbours, friends and family and if you could put them up on any notice boards that you know of that would help.

OTHER EXCITING NEWS!! I have sent out a number of press releases to all the local area newspapers, radio and TV and we already have had one request from the Illawarra Mercury who will publicise the exhibition closer to the date and the Northern Leader took some photographs today for an article which should go in next Thursday 4th May. So look out for it!

March Meeting + SnB Exhibition

Wow March has been and gone and we didnt' even get a chance to acknowledge that it happened!! I wasn't there but I know you all were, knitting away!

Don't forget that our Stitch n Bitch Exhibition is drawing closer!

Work needs to be handed in or as ready as possible at our April meeting on April 29th. That's three weeks away!!!

Exhibition Venue:

Exhibition Dates:
Opening Night: Friday 19th May at a time to be announced.

Exhibition Theme:
A theme has been ‘cooked up’ to help unify the work and give everyone a central idea to be working around. We have decided on the theme of ‘Heart Warming’ or ‘Heart Felt’ given that May is getting a little chilly and we arethinking of rugging up.

February Meeting

Another great SnB was had by all. There was a group of twenty or so of us all knitting happily with coffees or cocktails in hand.

Unfortunately I didn't get there till VERY late so I missed most of the fun but still managed to get some shots of people's show and tell.

In the shot above is (clockwise from top left) Charmaine looking coy modelling her wonderful floral headband, Zena showing off her lovely hoodie destined to be sentto the UK, knitted from Rainbow wools 8ply cotton, Bella with her georgeous AK traditions doll and showing off the handbag she knitted for her and finally Christine with her top knitted from some fabulous tape yarn.

In the shot above are a few finshed objects: (clockwise from top left) Charmaine's beautiful mohair beaded purse lined with silk and with a zip top, Beryl's Felted teddy, he's made from an old felted jumper and hand embroidered with a cute crocheted waistcoat, then Tiarne's great beanie knit from the workshops she did at the Kiama Knitting Guild's retreat. Then we have three Claps. Well three different Clapotis all in different types of yarn. It was really interesting to see them altogether.

And now some knitters in action: Sue with her crochet baby coathangers, Annie with her Coronet hat from knitty.com, the group and Kerry knitting standing up looking in another direction. If anyone can could knit in their sleep it would be Kerry!!

And finally the three Knitting Olympians with their gold medal efforts!!

Kiama Knitters Guild SEX Trip

The Kiama Knitters Guild are organising a SEX (Stash Enhancement eXpedition) bus trip on Saturday 18 March 2006 to the Southern Highlands to visit a few (well I think 5 in total) wool shops, 2 in Robertston, 1 Berrima, 1 Mittagong and 2 Bowral. There are seats available if any of the SNB girls would like to come along. The cost for the bus trip is $25 per person, it will be leaving Kiama approx. 8am on the day and will pick up at Kiama Downs, Oak Flats Railway Station and Albion Park, these times and pick up points are to be confirmed at our knitters guild meeting on 18 February 2006. Let me know if you are interested in coming along.

Can you believe that as Sharon was waving goodbye to go on holidays she said that she would miss SnB? 2 whole weeks holidays in the US, and countless Yarn Shops! And she will miss SnB? Nice! Party!!

What Fun!! The party meeting was great as usual with at least one newcomer - Hello Leanne. The Secret Santa giving was fun with everyone seeming to enjoy their pressies. (Thanks for the Darrell Lea Annie!!) Silly me, I didn't think to take any shots of the pile of presies or anyone's great knitting.

Off to Colly's we went at about six-ish and had a great dinner in the bistro. Lucky we got there early because the meal queue got pretty busy later on. I didn't think to take any photos until desert time. Some how Tianne and Becky didn't get in any photos.

What are you eating Irene?? Linda is trying on my OSW - it's WAY too big for her. Karin we know it's you! We missed you Jussi and Donna - The grrls just had to call!

Charmaine and Zena had a BIG night!! Go Girls!!!!

There was a symphony in lime green at this end of the table. Isn't Rae's Shrug Fantastic!! I'm so sad you can only just see the corner of my newly finished OSW

Knitters Unite for Santa!

Hello everybody,

Don't forget next Saturday is the final snb for 2005.

The plan is to knit from 2 till whenever at the lobby bar as usual, then head off to Collegians to the restaurant there for dinner. We really hope to get as many of you coming as we can, so don't forget to put us in your diary and get the appropriate night pass if necessary!

Also, we're going to have a Secret Santa as well. If you bring a wrapped gift to the value of $10 max we'll do a gift swap and everyone will go home with a little something for Christmas. Funny, irreverent, religious, alcoholic - whatever you choose is okay. Doesn't have to be knitting related, just be imaginative.

So, that's the story. See you there next week!

Stars of the October Meeting

Yes Annie! There are images of our October meeting. Strangely there's a shot of everyone (I think) except Ailsa and me. Well I was taking the photos but Ailsa how did you avoid the camera??

There were slightly fewer members this month but numbers are still towards 20. Again, we had a great time with lots of people bringing 'show and tell' books and knitting interesting patterns with interesting yarns. There was lots of inspiration.

There are heaps of good things about holding SnB in a bar. The first is that you can have cocktails, the second is that we get to check out bridal fashions as the afternoon progresses. At about 4.30pm all the wedding parties come in for drinks before their receptions. We get to see some very special outfits. The best one on Saturday was the 2yo flowergirl in nappy, white tights and shoes but no dress.

NOVEMBER - We are planning to go out for dinner afterwards for our SnB Christmas Party. DECEMBER - The December meeting coincides with New Years Eve and so will officially be cancelled, but I might see the die hards there anyway!

What a silly question! I know you are! Well I have been and I guess that is my excuse for not posting details of the last Stitch 'n Bitch. So I will tell all, after I tell you that 'anonymous' emailed to find out about the group and I was remined that I had not posted about August - so here goes:

AUGUST STITCH 'N BITCH
The August gathering was another well attended (more than 25!) afternoon of fabulous knitting, chatting, laughing, drinking coffee, having desert and checking out the brides!! There were a few new knitters which was great to see, hope you can come again next time. The Lobby Bar got pretty busy this week towards the middle of the afternoon with many bar punters looking enviously at our seats but by about 4.30 the crowds had thinned. There seemed to be a few wedding parties so along with our knitting there was plenty to keep us amused.

Don't forget next month's meeting, Saturday the 24th September, from about 2pm till about 5pm in the Wollongong Novotel Lobby Bar. All welcome, we meet every month, on the last Saturday of the month. Bring yourself, your mum or your daughter, come if you are wanting to learn to knit or want to just sit and stitch with others. There is a core group of about 20-25 who come regularly, however we have had some months much bigger.

August was our first anniversary, so we are one year strong! Many knitters did not know any one else when they first came along and now we have plenty of new friendships. I hope I've answered all your questions 'anonymous' and that we see you there in September.

Here are the pics!! What a great time we had. Lots of newcomers- welcome! Blogworld visitors from Sydney!! More than 30 knitters decscended on the Novotel lobby bar. They were momentarily thrown by the numbers but managed to keep up with the cocktails and coffees! I think the new venue is a success. The moveable lounge chairs are a hit. See your there next month.

Pina Coladas Anyone??

Hi Everyone,
Yep we are almost there. Only two days till Stitch 'n Bitch!!!! Don't forget that we will be at our new venue; The Novotel North Wollongong, in the Lobby Bar. I will start with a Pina Colada I think. That should get the knitting really rolling.

Infact I think we will have a competition. Whoever thinks up the best knitting related cocktail wins. It has to be drinkable. Perhaps we will have to get the Novotel to put it on their drinks menu?? I will think up a WONDERFUL Prize. Entries close 4pm Saturday. Winner announced at S'nB.

My Knitting Cocktail: 'Handpainted Silk' Layer Grenadine, Creme de menthe, and Blue Curacao over a nip of cream in a highball. Use a two DPN's through a row counter as a swizzle stick! (Sounds good but I dont think it would be drinkable)

JUNE MEETING

Saturday was another fun Stitch ‘n Bitch! With a group of more than 15 knitters, we yakked, swapped tips and knitted up a storm. Good on those tired girls who WERE TOO EXHAUSTED TO KNIT (?) but came anyway. Again there were a few under 28; Lisa’s two beautiful girls were knitting away.

I don’t have any pickies this time (due to forgetting my camera) which is a shame because I would have loved to post a pic of Lisa’s beautiful cream jumper that she finished this month. Good to hear her son loves it so much he wears it to bed.

The yarn swap went well, we will all have to save up our odds and ends and do it again soon. If anyone has any other ideas for group activities post a comment! There was consensus about the move to the Novotel next month so tell your friends if they don’t know.

Next meeting at the Novotel Lobby Bar Sat July 30th , 2pm – whenever… they never close….and they won’t begin to pack up around us at 3pm!

Hi all- Don't forget this month's Stitch 'n Bitch at Flame Tree Cafe as usual 2-5 pm on Saturday. At 4pm we will NOT be intimidated into leaving. Not even by owners packing up around us. ALSO Don't forget your extra yarn for the yarn swap!!

Apologies all - I had incorrect details up about the visit to Kerry + Co's Shop at Woonona. The shop is actually called Woonona Calico Corner. It is on the eastern side of the Highway towards the southern end of the shops at Woonona. I'm hoping I didn't steer anyone in the wrong direction last weekend. oops...

NEW LOCATION
Its official: From July we will move our meetings to the Lobby Cafe at the Novotel North Wollongong. Meet at The Flame Tree this month as usual so we can announce the change to everyone and don't forget to bring along spare balls from your stash for the yarn swap!

Hello Girls. Everyone is looking very busy!

There was a good turn out this month with about 25 knitters taking over the cafe. One under 30 - Yay Bella! and one token male - yep that's you Alexander! We cooked up a few plans for future knitterly events (see below) and considered changing venues because they were packing up around us at 4.30 and had shut the front doors. Any thoughts welcome. The Collegians Club dining room is one suggestion. Please leave a comment if you have other ideas.

BULLI SPINNERS SHOP VISIT
Come along on Saturday 11th June between 1pm and 3pm to Bulli Spinners Shop for a special 10% off all yarn afternoon. Bring your knitting, there's a cafe next door. The address is Shop 2/ 394 Princes Hwy Woonona. Easy to find, its less than a block south of McDonalds on the highway at Woonona. See you there!

NEXT MEETING
Next Stitch 'n Bitch is Sat 25th June, same time, same location BUT we are having a SUPER YARN EXCHANGE!! The idea is that you bring along the odds and ends you wish to swap. Its a good way to breathe new life into you stash and have a go at knitting some yarn you may not have bought yourself. BE BRAVE!

How it works:
-Bring along unused balls with labels or if you wish to put in some handspun (what fun!) 50G balls with a label as to fibre content.
-As you put in your yarn, you will receive a numbered ticket. As your ticket is drawn from the hat you can have a go and pick some yarn out of the pile. One ball out for one ball in. Yep its completely pot luck but could be fun!!!

PUB KNITTING TUESDAY
KIP-ing (Knitting In Public)on tuesday at the Oxford Tavern were the regular hip chicks joined by a few stitch and bitchers. The knitters table creamed the opposition in the first two rounds and stood up to the jeopardy round to win by a huge margin! (1 point) They promised to throw in a few knitting questions next time. We managed to ward off the amorous advances of the next table of facinated (but not facinating) inebriated boys. "Oh what are you knitting?" "Knit one purl one ha ha ho ho"

KIAMA KNITTERS GUILD
Congrats to the Kiama Knitters Guild on their show at the Old Fire Station. Every one had been very busy by the looks of things. Looking forward to getting a full report at Stich 'n Bitch this Saturday.

'Touch' Knit -In

Is that the correct collective noun for Stitch 'n Bitchers?? or maybe a tangle of s'nbers? or a gaggle of s'nbers? Whatever. Here they are at the first official WS'nB extra curricular event- The knit-in at the 'Touch' exhibition this weekend. The exhibition was great. So much work went into it. Those grrls did one hell of a lot of stitches. The knit-in was a load of fun in the open air and afternoon sunshine outside the old wollongong courthouse'

A few members of Wollongong Stitch 'n Bitch, Donni Grant, Kerry Butt, Shirley Connor and three other textile artists are showing their wares in an exhibition called 'Touch - Six Fibre Artists - One Exhibition'. Opening Tonight at 7pm and on show 10-4 Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May. The knit-in will be on Saturday afternoon. Bring your stitching or spinning and your dollars to take home an original piece and assist the Cancr Council of NSW in the process.
